Here are several cheap day-trip ideas that will have travelling and enjoying Kenya

Tour the City we assume –Nairobi City


Despite Nairobi being the capital city, it is often assumed. Top of mind is the National Park, however, did you know that there are other places you can enjoy in Nairobi without having to go to the National park? This includes touring our Museums, The Nairobi Gallery, National Achieves, The National Museum and the Railway Museum will have your learning about our city, her people and Kenya’s heritage. At the railway museum, you will take on a journey of the building of the Kenya railway. Alternatively, join the Friends of City Park and enjoy a guided nature walk at City Park that takes place every first and third Saturday of each month from 9 am to 12:00 pm.

Hell’s Gate and Olkaria Geothermal Spa in Naivasha

Several tour firms organize this day trip. It’s only an hour’s drive from the city to get to Naivasha host to Hell’s Gate National park and The Geothermal Spa.

There are plenty of activities that include walking, rock climbing at the Fischer’s tower, cycling as well as bird and wildlife. At the Olkaria Geothermal spa, take a deep into the naturally warm pool as well enjoy the sound of the bird amplified by the nearby natural environment.

Biking in with the Wild or in a Forest

For the biking enthusiast, then a biking day trip is your ideal plan. There are various locations where one can enjoy a biking tour. Karura forest within the city is just a stone throw away from the central business district (CBD). The Ngong Forest and the Olololua forest also allows cycling within the forest.

Go on Waterfall Hunt
It is believed that there is a hidden message in every waterfall. It says, if you are flexible, falling will not hurt you! There is a waterfall in every dream. Cool and crystal clear, it falls gently on the sleeper, cleansing the mind and soothing the soul. Kenya is home to lots of waterfalls. The Karura Forest fall, The Chania falls, Fourteen Falls, Zaina Falls, Karuru Falls, Thompson fall, Sagana Rapid Camp fall as well as Paradise lost fall are just but a few of the waterfalls that one can enjoy around Kenya. While at it, enjoy and interact with nature.

Go Hiking! 

Pack up your hiking bag, wear your hiking boots and explore the many hills and mountains within Kenya. Check out various groups on Facebook that offer an opportunity to hike at a relatively cheap cost. Most hiking tours will include transport to location and back, and a simple meal for not more than 5,000/-. From Mount Longonot in Naivasha, The Elephant Hill at the Aberdare Range, Mt. Kilimambogo at The Oldonyo Sabuk National Park in Thika, Ngong Hill just out of Nairobi city in Ngong Town, The Olorgesailie Hills in Magadi to point Lenana in Mount Kenya National park, there are quite some places for one to enjoy a hike at a budget.
