<p>Rusinga Cultural Festival will go down on the 20th and 21st December. Taking place in Rusinga Island &#8211; one of Kenya&#8217;s hidden gems on Lake Victoria &#8211; the festival offers two days of family fun within the picturesque environs of the island.</p>

<p>It is two days of nothing but music, fashion, film, food, artistry, literature, sports and conversations that take you back in time into the wealth of the Suba culture. <em>Or as my good friends @MikeOkinyi and @Tom Bwana will call it The Subanese Nation. </em><em>J</em></p>

<p>The festival is a cultural answer to the question, &#8220;Can a people die?&#8221; As a result of assimilation and intermarriage with the Luo, the Suba culture has been under pressure and the language is now listed in UNESCO&#8217;s <strong>Red Book of Endangered Languages (2003). </strong></p>

<p>The Theme of the 2018 Rusinga Festival is <strong>Celebrating Diversity. </strong>This theme is apt as it comes at a time when bridging the gap between cultures is <strong>urgent</strong> and <strong>necessary</strong> for peace, stability and development. Today, cultural expressions are important in unifying and humanizing people. The festival will explore all these contexts in many creative and cultural forms while at the same time celebrating the African narrative.</p>

<p>Now in its 7th year, the festival has grown tremendously to become a trademark in the Kenyan cultural festivals scene. This edition promises one magnificent party &#8211; a cultural feast like no other &#8211; with a great mix of excitement and enlightenment plus delicious company.</p>

<p>On 20th and 21st December 2018, the Rusinga Festival lights will be turned on, transforming Rusinga Island into a wonderland. The Kenyatalii.com family is looking forward to immersing ourselves in the rich Suba culture as we enjoy the stunning serenade of nature with every sunset and sunrise over Africa&#8217;s largest freshwater lake.</p>
