Tizi is a sheng (spoken by a majority of Kenyan youth) word meaning exercise. The first time we rest our eyes on this camp, one cannot help but wants to go camping. We were sure to deviate off the road from Mili tisa meaning nine miles from Namanga town. Namanga is the border town to Kenya and Tanzania.
Tizi Camp -Kenya Camping Budget Safari
The camp is tastefully designed and sits on a five acre land. We drive our vehicle into the premises and secure a parking easily. From the parking lot we could tell that Tizi Camp was a bee hive of activity as it was during the Easter season.
Kenya Camping Budget Safari
The camp has a variety of activities for children and adults. Accommodation is reasonably affordable. For simple bed and breakfast will cost Kshs. 2000/- for a twin bed room. Camping is at Kshs. 200/- per night. There are simple twin bed rooms and bands that are self contained and offer hot water and additional facilities for campers. Facing the Namanga Hills, the camp has a spectacular view of the sun set within the hills. The local community told us that they refer to the hills as the dark hills of Maili Tisa, they went on to narrate how for a long time the community has been grazing their cows at the hills. Nyama Choma is the stable food here, we ordered mbuzi choma (roasted goat meat) and a few accompaniments that was usually ready within an hour.
Getting to The Kenya Camping Budget Safari (Tizi Camp)
If one is driving from Nairobi, drive along Mombasa road and divert through to Athi River town, past Kitengela, Isinya, Kajiado town and drive on Namanga Kajiado road. From Kajiado keep driving to smaller towns, Bisil till you get to Maili Saba. About half a kilometer from Maili saba you will see a sign post indicating Tizi Camp. There is no other hospitality facility within the area.
For those wanting to get to Tizi Camp by public transport, take a matatu (mini vans) at OTC located at down Nairobi at the junction of river road and Ronald Ngala road. There are plenty of matatus to Namanga. The fare is about Kshs. 350/- off peak and at 400 to 500 shillings during the peak season which include Easter holidays and Christmas
